Mel Brigg

South African born artist Mel Brigg has a career that spans over four decades across several continents, with his work in major collections all over the world.

Brigg’s emotive landscapes and figurative works are born out of a self-taught artistic practice that have confidently found and established themselves within a variety of corporate, private, individual and government institution collections.

Famous for his highly skilled application and technique depicting a hybrid of beach and landscapes, his ability to portray moods within the skies and expansive scenes are both iconic and uniquely his.

“I draw inspiration from the interior regions of Australia. The vastness and intensity of light, combined with the spirituality of the indigenous peoples, are a never ending source of subject matter for me. What you see in a landscape may give you an overwhelming sense of peace, or it may threaten or intimidate you. I can paint an evocative landscape or I can make a graphic comment about social injustice, tragedy and the human condition.” - Mel Brigg
