Laila Bell
Laila Bell is a Danish Born artist and sculptor currently living in Byron Bay, Australia. The desire to express herself creatively only grew from Bell’s youth, finding herself continuously drawn to a distinct artistic voice that needed to be resolved. Following her intuition, Bell studied at the Copenhagen School of Art, exploring a variety of mediums and delving into a classical fine art education.
Having then studied in San Francisco and Chicago, Bell completed her formal schooling in the arts. Bell notes that ‘being an artist is an ever-evolving wondrous journey that never ends’, which is evident through her extensive yet sensuous body of work to date.
In 1985 Laila immigrated to Australia, a long way from Denmark but quick to call it home with the expansion of her family with 3 beautiful daughters. Between raising her girls and working as an exhibiting artist, in the year 2000 Laila began to sculpt. Describing the transition from pencil to clay as both ‘joyful and intimate’, Bell channelled her skills into a medium where her ability to capture the essence of people really began to take shape.
The intimacy and the sensuality of sculpture is a continuous thread throughout all of Laila’s creations. Her work is a beautiful narrative of exploration and expression, evident through years of developing bodies of work in mediums such as drawing, painting and sculpting.
Laila’s pieces are held in many private collections around the world, and is currently showing in both Denmark and Australia.
