Hollie McKenzie
Simultaneously historical, surreal and contemporary, Hollie McKenzie demonstrates a unique perspective and distinct aesthetic in her paintings, speaking to the way in which virtual reality mediates our world. By using her young daughter as a sitter, the artist intends to highlight uncertainty in the face of potential futures.
The juxtaposition of innocence (implied through adolescence) against a carefully curated artillery of props speaks to the current social and political climate, capturing a large international following. Holly indicates that the application of paint is heavily influenced by the Rococo, in terms of light and a feeling of both delicacy and flamboyancy.
Finding her way into some of the US and Europe’s strongest private collections, Mackenzie is currently exhibiting in New York, France, Luxembourg and Madrid. Based in Whian Whian NSW, Hollie McKenzie has been placed as a finalist in national art prizes and is currently showing with Thomgallery.
